The IR-2 is a power switching relay. It has three power cords and two sets of outlets. The center power cord is the power supply. The left and right side power cords are the triggers. When a trigger is powered, the power is switched off on the left side outlets and on on the right side outlets. When both triggers have no power, the reverse happens. The advantage with a relay like this is the trigger requires very low amperage to switch the high amperage power. You could potentially plug dozens of triggers into the same timer or thermostat so all the high amperage equipment is started at the same time. The reason for two triggers is to give you the option of plugging one trigger into a timer and another into a thermostat (or similar configuration). This will allow for either a time interval or a high temperature to trigger an exhaust fan. Operates on 115VAC with 15 Amp switching capacity. Approved for indoor use only.
