Not all Mycorrhizae are created equal: A primer on mycorrhizal fungi

At Premier Tech Horticulture, our production methods are unique and the most advanced in the field of mycorrhizae production. The endomycorrhizal fungi from our laboratories are produced with an aseptic culture assuring you of a pathogen-free product. For 20 years, we have offered only the purest form of high-quality tech grade mycorrhizal fungi.

What's the difference between endo and ecto Mycorrhizae?

Endomycorrhizal fungi produce thin filaments (called hyphae) that penetrate the cell walls of plant roots forming an extension of the plant root system. Endos benefit the majority of vegetables, floriculture crops, grasses, shrubs, some trees and are most important for commercial greenhouse growers. Ectomycorrhizal fungi form plant associations without penetrating root cell walls and form relationships with the majority of conifers, some hardwood species. Ectos provide benefits to a limited species of plants compared to Endos that benefit greenhouse and nursery crops.

How are mycorrhizal fungi produced?

Some manufacturers will tell you that their mycorrhizal fungi are the highest quality. The truth is that the majority of commercially produced mycorrhizal fungi are grown on plant root systems, produced in a pot, harvested and chopped-up and used as inoculum. This type of culture can include harmful root-disease organisms that can inoculate your plants with pathogens. At Premier Tech Horticulture, the endomycorrhizal fungi we use are produced in our aseptic chambers controlled conditions. We produce the purest form, 100% contaminant free, high-quality, tech grade endomycorrhizal fungi without the worries of root pathogens. In fact, Premier Tech is the largest commercial producer of endomycorrhizal fungi in the world!

Experience and Proven track record

Some companies use an assortment or cocktail of mycorrhizae in their products. Ask for the types and the spore count and you will be directed to their supplier. The truth is that these companies often do not know much about what they are putting in their growing media products. At Premier Tech, we have been culturing endomycorrhizae for over 20 years. No other growing media company produces mycorrhizal fungi of any type.
